Detailed below are examples
of acceptable name and address layout registration details together
with comments for the guidance of registries and CHESS participants.

The last line of all Australian addresses must contain the town or city
and the state or territory.
The state or territory should not appear on the last line alone.

of the holder. If insufficient space on the first line continue on to
the second line with a comma to identify the end of the name field.

Punctuation such as hyphens
used to link names together and apostrophes used in names such as O'Neill
can be included. No spaces should be left between hyphens and apostrophes

Where the name uses the full
30 characters on the first line, the comma may be placed as the first
character on the next line, however this should be avoided if at all
possible. Note that there should be no space before the next character.

Whenever possible joint holders
with short names are to be included on separate lines.

Titles should always be included and in many cases it will be necessary
to abbreviate, Professor to PROF, Captain to CAPT, Junior to JNR and
Senior to SNR.
It is not considered appropriate to abbreviate the titles of LADY and
SIR.

Surnames with a space such
as Mc Donald must be included as one word with no space being left as
this would result in the surname being recorded as DONALD.
Road, Street, Avenue, etc. should be entered in full when space permits.
However, do not start a new address line just to enter one of these
in full. If a flat or unit number and street number are to be included
they should be entered in full as shown if space permits. If space is
a problem they may be entered as 5/100 SMITH STREET.
Note: The backslash"\" cannot be used in the registration
details of CHESS Subregister holdings and should not be used by registries.

When the name is extended
to the second line, never break a work over the end of a line.
Company names can only be abbreviated by the use of legally acceptable
abbreviations such as CO, PTY and LTD.

If an address is to be care
of, it should be shown as C/- or C/O. The inclusion of "ATTENTION
OF" should be after the last name details line or designation details

The Australian State or Territory should be abbreviated as follows:
QLD, NSW, VIC, TAS, SA, WA, NT or ACT.
and should be included on the same line as the city, suburb or town.

Where an address is too long
to fit in the remaining lines it may be abbreviated, but keep in mind
that it must be able to be understood by the postal authorities. The
address must commence on a separate line and not on the same line in
which the name finishes.
